An arts initiative by YODA

the darker shade of twilight .

dusk. started as an exploration of thoughts and feelings — of how people make sense of current situations and express it through words, brushstrokes, concepts and pictures.

Through dusk., the Youth of Darul Arqam (YODA) brings together creatives to share their responses to the current COVID-19 pandemic. The curative process has been a long one, but we are proud to finally be able to share the works of our talented creatives.

Each submission in this online space is crafted with care by wordsmiths and visual artists who have each imbued their personalities into their work. Despite the lack of a physical experience, their works are still able to inspire meaningful connections which will resonate deep within you. We are very excited for you to dive into this experience and we hope that you will enjoy it!

peace and blessings .

It feels as if 2020 has caught us underneath a slow-moving eclipse. We entered the year with so many plans but indeed we were bested by the best of planners.

The past few months of planning and execution have not been easy. There were many things that the committee had difficulties getting used to, such as the lack of physical meetings and being unable to bounce energies off of each other. We never realised how much of a necessity the 'human touch' is until we were made to put a break on our non-immediate connections.

I am very thankful to my team for pulling through despite having to quickly adapt to this 'new normal'. dusk. is made possible to come into this space due to the hard work of everyone in the team.

I am also very thankful to our contributors for braving the crevices of their minds and sharing their precious creations with us. The range of works we have on the space is definitely amazing and I hope that they can be an encouragement to others to continue creating — for even when the sun sets, the moon will still reflect the light it shines.

May you keep doing small things with great love.

My best, with His grace,
Nawwarah Li

about YODA .

The Youth of Darul Arqam (YODA) is the youth wing of the Muslim Converts' Association of Singapore (MCAS). Made up of youth volunteers from diverse backgrounds and ages, it aspires to connect youths in Singapore and engage them through various activities to develop their understanding of the Islamic faith.

By applying the knowledge from their day-to-day dealing with both Muslims and potential Muslims, YODA volunteers are empowered to embrace the communal spirit with individuals of different creed, religion and culture with respect and understanding.

To date, YODA has organised various youth events such as a spoken word performance (RE-ACT), a theatre production (Crossroads) and a debate competition (Singapore Muslim Youth Debate).
